Hi there!
I’m Joan Lee, a nutritionist intern in Homey. Throughout my 6 months of internship here, I have something to share with all of you. Do read until the end if you’re planning to do your internship here in Homey!
First of all, due to the pandemic, I started my first remote internship in March 2022. Not knowing what to expect at first, I went in with an open mind and here are a few takeaways while doing my internship in Homey:
#1 Without Homey, I would not have gained Effective Communication
After 6 months of exploring and training in the Customer Care department, my consultation skills significantly improved as I was dealing with different clients everyday. Other than building rapport with various clients, I had also gained critical thinking skills and problem solving skills from all the experience in the Customer Care department. For me, I felt very accomplished when I acted as the bridge to link clients to healthy food catered to their medical needs daily.
Other than that, working with Homey colleagues was a breeze as they were very helpful to guide me when I was in doubt.
#2 Without Homey, I would not have sharpen my nutrition knowledge
Every day, I felt my significance as a nutritionist because I provided dietary advice to the clients, debunking nutrition myths and encouraging them to eat a variety of food in daily lives. The tasks given to me had empowered me to be a credible nutritionist constantly.
#3 Without Homey, I would not have become a Chef Friendly Nutritionist
When given the chance to visit Homey kitchen, I fully experienced the hard work that the kitchen crews put in to provide healthy meals to the clients every day. I was also given leadership roles to ease the workflow as well. From this experience, as a nutritionist, I learnt to maintain good communication to the kitchen crews and clients so that both parties can get the best outcomes.
#4 Without Homey, I would not have been exposed to so many aspects of nutrition
Homey provides a platform that will allow you to experience many different aspects in nutrition. Not only did I conduct personalized nutrition consultations, multiple physical health awareness booths, and live cooking demonstrations, I also collaborated with the marketing team to brainstorm and execute nutritional materials.
In conclusion, doing my internship in Homey is like unboxing a parcel. The parcel is packed with full exposure and experiences of being a nutritionist. This parcel that I had acquired for 6 months will permanently follow me into the journey of becoming a credible and persuasive nutritionist.
Therefore, I would say the regret I had during this internship was that I did not relocate to Penang for a full physical internship experience. So if you are looking for an extensive internship experience, I would say go for it, move to Penang and get ready to be fulfilled as a nutritionist! You’re in for a very rewarding journey.
