To conclude, I have learned and grown in various aspects after having my internship journey at Homey. This experience improved both my hard skills and soft skills. In terms of hard skills, I noticed significant improvements in my plating, design, and video editing abilities. I learned to create visually appealing meals by arranging them properly and using vibrant colours. This not only stimulates the appetite but also ensures a more balanced nutrient profile. I also gained knowledge in portion control for individuals with different dietary needs. Interestingly, I discovered the importance of garnishing in plating; even small additions like sesame seeds or cherry tomatoes can make a significant difference. My design and video editing skills were improved through the daily Facebook posts I created, where I learned to choose appropriate layouts, fonts, and colours for the posts.
On the soft skills side, I realized the importance of efficiency, especially in the early morning session when we needed to prepare customers' meals on time to avoid delays later in the day. This experience also improved my time management skills. I came to understand the value of being proactive as it is important to ask questions when unsure rather than making assumptions that could lead to serious consequences. Additionally, I learned the significance of being open to learning and observing others' strengths to improve myself. Independence was the key when handling certain tasks such as project preparation or social media posting. My communication skills also improved through administrative tasks, discussions with colleagues, and consultations with customers.
Overall, I've learned a lot and am grateful to meet everyone at Homey. Special thanks to my site supervisor, Miss Shin Hwa for her time, guidance, and support throughout this journey.
